HIV Statistics
Over 3,000 people in the New Haven community are currently living with HIV/AIDS reported cases, affecting every age group and every ethnicity. Many more may also have the virus unknowingly.
It is estimated approximately 20,000 HIV-infected people live in Connecticut.
With 600 new cases in 2005, CT has the 8th highest per capita incidence rate of HIV/AIDS.
AIDS is the #1 killer of African-Americans age 15 to 45.
In New Haven, lack of housing was the number one indicated barrier to getting HIV treatments.
