Mission Statement

AIDS Walk New Haven is a 5K walk to raise money to provide support services to individuals and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in the greater New Haven community. Our goals are to raise money, increase public awareness, promote prevention through advocacy, and unite the Yale-New Haven community against stigma, apathy and infection.

  • We seek to raise money for 10 major AIDS service organizations, including AIDS Interfaith Network, AIDS Project New Haven, Fairhaven Community Health Center , Hillhealth Center , Hispanos Unidos, Leeway, Liberty Community Services, New Haven home recovery, Planned Parenthood, and the Visiting Nurses Association. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, we will be able to commit the maximum possible amount of funds raised to the fight against HIV/AIDS in New Haven .
  • Increase public awareness and promote prevention through advocacy by uniting as a community to speak out about the need for greater HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment resources. Every business, school, and individual that participates in and contributes to the AIDS Walk will be actively helping more children and adults understand the importance of HIV education, prevention and treatment in the greater New Haven area.
  • Unite the Yale and New Haven community against stigma, apathy and infection. In 2004, there were over 6,000 people living with AIDS in Connecticut and over 1,000 people were living with AIDS in New Haven . Roughly one-third of these were black, one-third white, and one-quarter Hispanic. We hope to bring the Yale student body and the greater New Haven community together to fight this epidemic. AIDS blurs borders, crosses class lines and unites races in suffering. It truly is everyone's problem, and so we invite you to be a part of the solution.
